Donald Trump may meet Russian President Vladimir Putin very soon. US President Trump himself said so on Wednesday.

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff met with President Putin in Moscow on the same day. Trump also said that they had very productive discussions.
A senior source in Kiev said that after the Putin-Witkoff meeting, Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation. There, they talked about a possible Trump-Putin summit. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany and Finland also participated in the same phone conversation.
Later, at a press conference at the White House, reporters asked Trump when he would meet with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. In response, he said, “There is a strong possibility of a meeting very soon.” However, Trump did not say anything about where the possible meeting with Putin could take place.
If the Trump-Putin meeting happens, it will be the first US-Russia summit since Trump took office for the second time. The meeting between then-US President Joe Biden and Putin took place in Geneva in June 2021. The New York Times and CNN reported, citing people familiar with the possible Trump-Putin meeting, that Trump is planning to meet with Putin next week. He then wants to organize a trilateral meeting with Putin and Zelensky.
